Thruxton Race Review

Ginetta GT5 Challenge set an absolutely blistering pace at the high-speed Thruxton circuit in Hampshire over the weekend, 7th/8th of May. Making a welcome return to the high-profile Dunlop MSA British Touring Championship support package in blazing sunshine.

Qualifying on Saturday, saw Chadwick set the fastest time of the session on his first flying lap such as the abrasive nature of the surface, GotBoost Racing drivers Nick Zapolski, Jack Minshaw and the returning Glen Broster settled for 5th 7th and 12th respectively.

The fast-starting Nick Zapolski was soon battling for podium positions and Jack Minshaw was keen to hold on to the coat tails. It wasn’t to be with Nick finishing 4th and Jack 7th. Glen was making progress but only managed to finish 11th despite running in 9th place early on in the race. A top 10 place was most definitely within his grasp until fatigue set in.

Round five on Sunday, 8th May, which was televised live on ITV4, again saw a great start from Nick, Jack who has improved his technique off the line also featured towards the front, until contact into the start-finish straight saw him fade back to 9th. Nick’s battle with Hadfield featured on the live coverage as the duo exchanged places but not paintwork repeatedly. Nick eventually broke away to finish 3rd and get on the podium for the second time this season. Glen was in the top ten mix until his race ended with his bonnet flying off after contact with another car.

Next on the racing calendar will be the third event of the Ginetta GT5 season at Oulton Park in Cheshire over the weekend of 28th/29th May.
